You can read spreadsheets and financial statements, goals and vision statements, and website content all day long but there is one thing you will never learn from your business.
You will never learn if your business cares about you.
You will never hear your business say “I love you.”
Your business is an inanimate object – void of feelings, decisions, doubts, or fears. It cannot soothe a tension headache (but can give you many), it cannot celebrate your in-the-black Profit and Loss Statement for the year.
It consists of debits and credits, ones and zeros, inventory, and collections.
However, you and your business spouse can say “I love you” – and should. Every day. Many times a day if necessary, for survival.
You began a business with your spouse because you enjoyed one another so much you just wanted to spend more time together – building something you could be proud of and work in together!
Ok, maybe you just sort of morphed into business together when one of you began something that got big fast and you needed help.
Whatever the reason for working together, here you are – spending days (and nights) working toward business success. Don’t forget that your success in a business partnership together is only as good as your relationship is strong. If you neglect your marriage relationship, it will only hurt your business relationship.
Being an entrepreneur or business owner isn’t easy, and it doesn’t ‘love you back.’ Your desire to work for yourself may be strong, but your relationship with your spouse has to be stronger.
